Azure kingfisher (Ceyx azurea)

I like birds with bright plumage and always wanted to see Azure Kingfisher. They got toxic colours both blue and orange.
Distribution maps tell us these birds are common for half of the country, but where to find them exactly is always a secret.
Today I've accidentally seen one. He was diving into a small creek and on this image you can still see some water droplets on his feathers.

Anyone knows why kingfishers and kookaburras have such strong beaks?

(For some reason scientific name Ceyx azureus which I have in every bird guide available to me does not work in our Opus here)

Beautiful image, Alex, and I didn't appreciate just how long that beak is!

Nice capture Alex . Ceyx azureus used to be called Alcedo azurea you have actually put Ceyx azurea not azureus in the scientific name box . Could be the problem with Opus .

It does now!;)

The taxonomists have changed many "us" endings for "a" (or vice versa, can't remember now LOL. I've now added that spelling to the article and done a re-direct. Also amended the Gallery Search, so it should now pick up pictures regardless of the spelling choice.

You've a super picture of this beautiful kingfisher Alex - very well done my friend.
