I was very lucky to see these Smew together. Both Lifers for me.

I didn't have to feed them as they were Ducking and Diving for food, see short Video below.

What a beautiful pair, and a great shot! Aside from wing-clipped ones in a park, I've only ever seen one (a female). I'll have to make a trip up North again some year, or to Iceland.

Great capture Brian. A species you don't see that often, and getting both sexes in the frame was perfectly timed. You're getting impressive shots with the SX50. The fine patterning on the male's flanks is preserved nicely - exposure and processing would have been a challenge, but it's worked out very well. Congrats on your lifer!
