'Smiling!' (Dacelo novaeguineae)

After I had been working early today Pete and I went up to New Gisborne in the hope of finding some Robins, as 'tis the season for them here. I went for a walk and saw a Kookaburra flying through the trees and saw where it had landed, it was near a hollow tree, so maybe checking it out for a nesting site. It posed for me and I think it's true to its name as I'm sure it had a smile on its face and was calling out to another, not too far away.....I got several shots and then walked away with it still watching me.....hope you all like it!

I wish mine would sit as still as yours Nora. You've gotta be pleased with this cracking capture, absolutely lovely. Maybe they should re-name it 'The Smilng Kookaburra'?
Thanks for all the comments.....I just love listening to these guys whenever I'm out in the forest and to have one pose so nicely really made my day.
