I leaned a bit to the left and managed to get this Yellowhammer framed between two birch branches. Took one step leftwards for a steadier position ... and he flew.

LOL, thought you were going to say you fell!!;) But that's just typical of birds isn't it.

Having not seen or heard any of these for a couple of years on my way to Kinnordy, this last few weeks I have been hearing them calling. Just wonderful!!

Sounds like good plan, Doc, and clearly it did work to some extent. It's always that final step that messes things up.
