Snow In The Ciy

Snow In The Ciy (Nyctea scandiaca)

I got a call from a woman at the Troy, NY City Hall who said that there was white owl on the building across the street for most of the day. I drove 20 minutes to get there, and got this shot (along with a bunch of others). Right after the Mayor had a look at my photos (at dusk) he rushed back in the building to call me outside to see a peregrine falcon swooping down on the snowy owl mercilessly. The snowy had wings extended out in a defensive posture. After about ten noisy swoops (all the while emiting a disturbing "kek, kek, kek), the falcon flew away. Unfortunately it was too dark for a photo at that point--quite the scene!

A superb capture Curt, great work! Interesting details about the Falcon's behaviour too, thanks for sharing the experience. :t:

Nice shots of the snowy Curt. After I saw you today I went down near the cottonwoods by the apartment pool and stayed about 45 min. but no falcons showed. I will keep trying!! Went back up to Cohoes Falls and did get some eagle shots.
Going to Ft. Edward with some of the HMBC guys to look for Snowys.
