Snowy Owl

Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca)

This rare bird is staying on Texel (Northern Holland) for several weeks. Though the quality is not that good (I had only my 400mm with me) I like it to show hunting a hare
Location
Texel (Netherlands)
Date taken
7 December 2008
Scientific name
Nyctea scandiaca
Equipment used
Nikon D2x 70-200mm, 2x converter
Because the hare is so big/heavy, I suppose the owl is trying to wound the animal first. I have seen several attacks on the hare. Unfortunetely I had to go away before the hare was killed.
