Snowy Sheathbill

Snowy Sheathbill (Chionis alba)

There are only 2 birds in this family "Chionidae". It is highly doubtful I will ever get the other. Iles Crozet is not exactly on the beaten track. But I'm very happy to have this one. This is a "strange & unique" species. Look it up...
Location
Salisbury Pain, South Georgia Island
Date taken
01/08/2019
Scientific name
Chionis alba
Equipment used
D5, 600mm, ISO 220, -0.7 EV, f/4.5, 1/4000
A splendid capture of this travelling Sheathbill.
Interesting to read about its feeding, its anatomy and its taxonomy.

Fascinating bird and a fabulous photo! I've spent the last 5 minutes googling it, as you suggested. I'm glad I don't have to live on its diet, though. ;)

Ooooh!!! What a beauty he is!

That's a wonderful picture of a bird we hardly ever see coming in Gerald. In fact we don't have a flight picture in The Opus as yet, so I'll upload this one to the article shortly.

Many thanks for sharing him with us lad.
