Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia)

If you look closely you will see that the image is not sharp. Reason: the shutter speed is only1/200 sec. Rule of thumb is that with long prime lenses the shutter should be 1/prime; meaning 1 over the focal length i.e. 1/500, as I was using a 500mm. lense. This is the MINIMUM shutter when using long lenses ( any thing over 300mm).; especially if one is not using a tripod. My personal preference would be to shoot a 1.5 of the focal length: examp. 1.5 x 500mm = 750; therefore shoot at minimum 1/750 -1 / 1000 sec.

True enough. Still, this is a great shot, and well composed! The other rule of thumb -- a pushed shot is better than no shot at all. ;) I like it! :t:
