Sora
An adult hiding in the grass in deep shade. Named for their call, they are migrants here; shy, chicken-like marsh birds more often heard than seen. The short stubby yellow bill suggests a relationship with the Crakes of Eurasia and Australia. In fact, the genus "Porzana" means "Crake" in Italian.
Location
Valley Fund Lots, South Padre Island, Texas, USA.
Date taken
24 April 2024.
