Southern Carmine Bee-eaters attacking monitor lizard (Merops nubicoides)

As I watched this colony of birds they suddenly became quite agitated and I noticed the monitor lizard had stuck its head out of a burrow. The lizard came out of the burrow, accidentally lost its footing and slipped down the bank. The birds were crying out alarm calls as it headed off to raid another burrow in search of eggs and as it did so the birds flew in and attacked it.
