Sparrowhawk mantling a Mouse

Sparrowhawk mantling a Mouse (Accipiter nisus)

Grubby double glazing, glare on the glass, and poor light yesterday, so high(ish) ISO and slow shutter speed... but I don't see him in this pose in my trees often, and you can still see the fur of the prey. He'd just caught the Mouse and flew into my trees to eat it, but the mouse almost wriggled free, hence the mantling pose.

From capture to looking for another meal; less than 15 minutes... no evidence of a kill, no fur or bones. So if this was happening in gardens countrywide, not many people would be aware of it.

Terrific action behavior capture, Chris!! tfs. Soon there will be no mice left in your area going by the rate at which they are being cleaned up by these predators!
