Sparrowhawk reacting to Squirrel (Accipiter nisus)

A standard response from a Sparrowhawk when one of the curious Squirrels gets too close. The majority of Sparrowhawks stand their ground and make themselves look as big as possible; remember this Sparrowhawk is slightly smaller than a Collared Dove, so a brave bird really.

Through the double glazing, a bit of glare on the glass too. The strong colours are as seen; the colours of the male change drastically depending on the light... at least to our eyes

stunning capture and that squirrel is lucky this is not a female.i remember last year seeing birds and alot flying up.gulls and corvids as i went to the shop.decided to go and investigate because knew something was going on.walked around our houses to the park and yes a female sparrowhawk with kill no gulls only corvids crow harassing the hawk it stood its ground until i appeared it grabbed its prey and flew a short distance from me and carried on feeding.all the best margaret.
