Splendid Fairy-Wren (Malurus splendens)

This Splendid Fairy-Wren male is shown expanding its cheek feathers, possibly as part of its display or to make itself threatening to other birds around it.At the time of photography it was moving around with a family party. Not easy to stalk and get sharp shots,we nevertheless got "something"even if not as sharp as we would have liked.
Habitat
Mulga scrubland
Location
Cunnamulla/ Western Queensland
Date taken
October 2008
Scientific name
Malurus splendens
Equipment used
Canon 40D with f5.6 400mm lens
Despite your reservations ...... A must look at image, first one I went to this morn'. Top 10% of BF images for detail in my opinion. Thanks for showing.

All the fairy wrens can be so frustrating, disappearing into the undergrowth just that split second before you hit the shutter button. Still a very nice shot, one I haven't managed to bag yet.

You've still got that magic touch mate.
This bird was my signature sign for any painting I did when living in Western Australia.
