Mmmm.... it's a juvenile Starling you have here Malcolm.

A cracking picture you've got of him too. Very well done lad.
 
I know a couple have said its a juvenile starling, but I watched it for about 10 minutes flying out from the top of the tree at regular intervals, catching flies and coming back to the same spot. Not what I thought of as starling behaviour, but certainly flycatcher like. Any further thoughts please.

....also note the steeper forehead and the little streaky spots there and on the upper breast. It's a much smaller bird, smaller than a House Sparrow.

I have loads of these young Starlings in the garden here just now.
