Spotted (formerly known as rufous-sided) Towhee (Pipilo maculatus)

A bit far off, so rather grainy. I think I may have another shot of one, possibly even a better shot of one, on my cell phone. Certainly closer, just across the parking lot fence, but camera was in the trunk of the car so used the cell phone rather than risk it being gone by the time I got back. We'll see when I get those downloaded.
As for why this bird's name was changed, I have no idea. Either name suits, but why bother to change an established name? Or maybe both names were in use and then the one I'd learned got dropped?

They're such pretty things, aren't they. A lovely picture you've got here Ann.

I've just checked with Opus and it appears that the Rufous-sided was split a few years ago, so the one with spots on became the Spotted (would you believe that :-O)... the other was was called Eastern. Hope that makes sense?;)
