Spotted Pardalote (Pardalotus punctatus)

Of all the beautiful little birds - and there are many - for me the Spotted Pardalote is the most beautiful of all. This was one of about 30 that were all around me in the ironbark saplings last weekend, filling the air with cheerful, piping contact calls and the pprrrp, pprrrp, prrrp of tiny wings, and delightfully curious about me: perching close by (sometimes too close to focus the camera on) and gravely inspecting this strange, upright human creature, first with one eye, then the other.
Habitat
Box-ironbark forest
Location
Killawarra SP, eastern Victoria
Date taken
December 2005
Scientific name
Pardalotus punctatus
Equipment used
Canon 20D Canon 100-400L
Nice shot. It must have been the camera - I've never had a Spotted Pardalote show the slightest interest in me whilst looking at them through binoculars!

I was actually wondering if they were looking at their reflections in the lens, John. I don't think so though, the behaviour didn't seem to fit that. Perhaps it was because they were nearly all youngsters and they had almost certainly never seen a human before.

Delightful shot Tannin and I'd like to see more too. Very pretty little birds that have recently visited our garden.
