Squirrel Cuckoo C-RICA SER 2

Squirrel Cuckoo C-RICA SER 2 (Piaya cayana)

In my travels in the Americas, I have frequently caught glimpses of this common species of tropical and subtropical cuckoo foraging in dense vegetation, and flying quickly from one foraging site to another, but on only a few of these occasions was the bird positioned so I could try for a photograph of it. Even in this photo, the tail is partly obscured.
Habitat
Dense secondary moist forest
Location
Rancho Naturalista near Turrialba, Costa Rica
Date taken
2 December 2015
Scientific name
Piaya cayana
Equipment used
Canon 7D Mark II, Canon 500 mm II f/4 + 1.4x
What a handsome bird, and a great image, Ronald.

Great capture, Ronald! This was a target bird for us in Honduras but we only ever saw it obscured in the distance! Thanks for posting.
