Stalking Bittern (Botaurus stellaris)

We watched this Bittern for a long time at Minsmere yesterday. It kept appearing from the reeds in front of the Island Mere hide. It would stalk fish and when it had caught one it would disappear into the thickest part of the reeds before reappearing a little while later. I have never been so close to a Bittern before and it was fantastic. Unfortunately that is when my new Delkin battery decided to die on me! But that's another story. Ron
