Steller's Jay
Frequently misspelled, this species was named in honor of the explorer Georg Wilhelm Steller. They range in evergreen forests of western North America where they often visit picnic tables. They imitate a variety of birds, mammals, and other sounds including hawks, squirrels, and creaking trees. The pale blue streaks on the forehead are characteristic of coastal populations. This is the subspecies "C. s. carbonacea" which is resident in central coastal California.
