Still in the yellow
Early July and juvenile Great Tits are independently feeding while still showing their yellowish white plumage.

I wanted to tell you the story of the log feeder he was using. I'd had it a few years to use in the garden, the birds loved it and I couldn't keep up with refilling it. All the tits and the Starlings were at it all the time.

The second year the same, until half-way through they suddenly left it alone, until I just gave up and brought it in to put in the window. There the Starlings returned and hammered at it constantly for about 6 months. Then the same... completely lost interest so I brought it inside.

When we started the feeding station at the Mause, we couldn't keep up with their delight in the fat balls, as soon as we refilled them the birds were back on it, often before we'd finished filling the other ones. I saw a large pine cone filled with fat in Home Bargains they loved that so much it was emptied, particularly by the woodpeckers within a few days (then the tits came in to get the little bits stuck right inside LOL). I suddenly remembered the log feeder, so thought to try that. And it's proved a hit, not only with the tits but the woodpeckers too.

We'll see if they get fed up with it LOL.

I surely don't think they will ever get tired of using that feeder. I wonder how long a banana would last. Nice job g/f!

Is the feeder home made of store bought and the same question with the cylinders made of fat, etc. Lovely picture and a marvelous narrative my friend. TFS D!
