Actually Clive, "light in the midtones" isn't far off - I do habitually keep the contrast down, which would have a direct impact on the midtones.

The original of this was still as contrasty as hell because of the hard sunlight on it, so I brought things right down in Curves. Too far, maybe?

The eye was completely lost in shadow, which I had to work at a bit to bring out, and maybe in doing that I flattened the rest of the image.

Not to worry - I can always replace this one with version with a bit more "pop".

Looks good this end keith, cheers simple but effective shot, must be a east west thing, in the east we seem to be able to get closer, maybe our birds are from europe, and arn't so shy. Cheers
