Strange Duck
There have been reports of a possible Common Goldeneye x Hooded Merganser on Ford Lake for the last week or so. I've looked for it a few times and found it. It was fairly distant, so this isn't the best pic. It was hanging out with a pair of Common Goldeneyes and there was also a pair of Hooded Mergansers nearby.
Habitat
Ford Lake
Location
North Bay Park, Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA
Date taken
March 1, 2009
Scientific name
Bucephala clangula x Lophodytes cucullatus?
Equipment used
Nikon D2Xs, Tamron 200-500 mm lens
It certainly got features of the Goldeneye, but the head looks somewhat different. An excellent spotting and nice shot!
