Strange pose
It's funny how an odd pose can throw you, isn't it. This guy had me pondering for a long time as to what it was.

Decided in the end it was a Common Gull.

My morning picture... well done to those who spotted the two birds, one each side of the big rock, not far from the right and left hand borders. Unless I'm very much mistaken they're Lapwings and well done to JJ who ID'd them too.

a common gull, but not a common pose indeed, Delia!! lovely photo, sure looks like a nice place!!! many tfs!!!
 
I think it's got a defiant pose, Delia. It saw you coming!I've seen sanderlings adopt this pose towards other birds when foraging along the water's edge.
