Striated heron.jpg
Striated heron aka Green-backed heron aka Mangrove heron is a bit difficult to photograph as it seems to be quite shy. So every time you want to get closer, it flies away or is hiding deeper under the mangrove trees. I was so lucky to spot this one on open reef/by the beach and made several shots before the bird flew away.
Habitat
Mangrove trees next to ocean.
Location
Chale Island Jetty, Kenya.

That's a fantastic picture and such a typical pose for this species too Nick.

Many thanks for showing it to us lad.

BTW this species is the one featured on the front page of The Opus this month, so you've timed it well.
