Nice photo and cool looking bird.

As a general comment, I'd suggest shooting full-size jpeg, or better yet, shoot raw so that you have more pixels to work with in post. Once pp'ed to your liking then downsize in PS Elements for posting...it will likely need sharpening after downsizing.

Specifically for this photo, the backgound is too bright and overpowers the foreground bird which lacks weight. I've never used PS elements but if it has masking capabilities you could try darkening the bg. Then add more contrast & saturation to the fg. Then sharpen the fg. The bird will then stand away from the bg.

I gave it a quick try in PS CS3. Hope this link works:

Thanks for the tips. This image was shot in raw. I like the effect you created more than the image I have included here. I know something needs to be done. I just need to discover (and understand) a workflow with photoshop. Sometimes I am happy with what I see sometimes I dont know what the 'right' look should be.
