Stubby (Passer domesticus)

Hmmm. Why the stubby tail? Was this perhaps a juvenile just shifting into adult plumage? Or an adult going through post-breeding season molt? Or had a cat got its tail and now new tail feathers were just coming back? I tried to ask, but I guess he couldn't hear me through the window. Or maybe he refused to answer because I'd insulted him with giving so much of my attention to the Tree Sparrow ;)
