Stygian Shadowdragon

I so enjoy dragonflies for many reasons, some of them being their beautiful wings, but also of their great speed during flight and also the many stunts they do during flight.

Sorry I'm not good with ID's on these guys, so if any of you do know, please by all means let me know, as it is a learning experience.

Found this one on a wood deck very early morning yesterday, but once the sun warmed him up, he took off. Wished I had found him on a nice blade of green grass.

Thanks Cora and Marian...we are lucky to have these guys showing up. At the same location as this dragonfly, also were many damselflies in many different colors. I have seen just a few butterflies so far.

I love them also, I have taken quite a few shots but as yet none as clear as this one. Well done.

Hello ChicaD,
Looks like you have a Stygian Shadowdragon, ( Neurocordulia yamaskanensis)
None of the other dragonflies show the same wing venation with amber coloration. Look at the base of it's wings. They hunt after dark, late dusk and moonlit evenings. I haven't seen this one yet. This is Brian by the way.

Thanks again Oppie for giving this dragon an ID for me. I also found your information fasinating as well. :t::t:
