Superb Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus)

Or (again) at least I think that's which one this is. We saw both Superbs and Variegateds, according to my hostess Marie Lister, whose expertise I trust when it comes to Sydney area birds. But back to uncertainty ... It's hard to tell the fairywrens apart when they're not in breeding plumage, but according to my field guide, Superbs are the only ones with navy blue tails.

Whichever species it is (the tail looks blue alright) it's full of attitude! And what a beautiful name: "Fairywren". An image like this, from the other side of the planet, is something to treasure for a lifetime. Good work Ann.
