Swan Family

Would a Heron eat a cygnet.

Hi, I have been watching a swan sat on a nest for weeks, today 29/06/08 six eggs hatched, a Heron that shares the lake is showing a great deal of interest in the newly hatched cygnets, do you thing he would eat one? I have pictures but I guess I can not share them as it includes the nest.

Here is the first time the cygnets went into the water same day as hatched.

Thanks,

Rob

Great shot, very nice colours. Regarding herons, they are opportunists, and often take the chicks of waterfowl. HOWEVER, adult swans, esp. territorial breeding ones are very formidable, being as large, and as powerful, if not more, than the heron, im not sure it would be able to surpass both of the parents.

Lovely family group:t: I recon the Heron would have one if he could get to them:C Mick

Super family shot.
I agree, the Heron would go for it if given the chance - but the Swans will make sure he doesn't get a chance!
