'What you lose on the swings you gain on the roundabouts'!
The 'swings' were the dull skies and drizzly rain which were far from ideal conditions for birdwatching let along taking photos. The 'roundabouts' though were the fantastic close views of around 35 House Martins feeding low over the marsh and reedbed. I was stood on the boardwalk and they were passing by both sides of me within a few feet and every now and again one suddenly pulled up to take a fly overhead. Not to mention several food passes between adults and young. I dare say though if it hadn't been so dull then the views would have been nothing like so spectacular.
