Sword-billed Hummingbird
Latin name of this species translates as sword (ensis) carrier (ferre)...it is the only bird in the Ensifera family, the only bird in the world with a bill longer than its body length and it has to preen using its tiny feet. It is also the only hummer which has to hover to insert its beak in sugar-water feeders it does not land on the feeder. The favoured nectaring flower is Angels Trumpet. I feel very privileged to have seen and photographed it.
