The Conspicuous American Coot
A

The Conspicuous American Coot (Fulica americana)

You see this bird everywhere and I always try to snap off a few shots of it when I see it because it has been a real challenge for me... exposure-wise and to get a view of the feet. It would be nice to get one of those bigger flashes someday. This one was up in a very nice park up in NE Tuscon, Arizona.
Habitat
Common on ponds and in marshes. Walks onto lawns and golf courses to graze on grass or dives for aquatic vegetation, which it brings to the surface to eat.
Location
Tuscon Arizona USA
Date taken
Jan16, 2008
Scientific name
Fulica americana
Equipment used
Canon 20D, 100-400mm
:bounce: You've got it very nicely, having a trot and showing the amazing foot! Lovely the DOF in this low angle too! Well done, Tony!!! :t: :t: :t:

I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one who finds it difficult to photograph this bird! But you've got it all in--the white bill, the red eye, the black plumage, the weird toes! Great shot!
