This woopecker was so intent on constructing his nesting hole that he totally ignored me and I was able to get very close. The hole was a success and the youngsters have now flown. I noticed yesterday that the other hole we were watching is also empty so there are a lot of juvenile Great Spotted Woodepeckers in the neighbourhood all calling loudly for their parents.

I don't get this sort of opportunity very often and now I wish I'd taken more pictures. At the time I was worried I might disturb him but I could probably have managed a few more.
