The Poser (Sturnus vulgaris)

This bird has been endlessly entertaining recently as it's decided to make use of one of the bird houses in the garden. It perches on top of the finial and goes into an elaborate display with wing flapping and throwing it's head back and singing it's heart out, such as it's song is. It is a series of whistles, shrieks and odd sounds. I'm sure it's potential mate finds it alluring but it just makes me laugh.

It is such a shame that these birds are a nuiscance here. Many detest them as, like another problem import, House Sparrows, they compete with our native cavity nesting birds and our native birds numbers are suffering as a result.

That being said, it isn't the birds' fault that they are here, it is the fault of the humans, who now detest them, for bringing them here to begin with. An unfortunate situation.

I can't do a thing about the problems of introduced species but I can and do admire the beauty of this pretty bird and enjoy its antics.

Great detailed shot Deanne! We had same said in UK about Starling and House Sparrow until they started to thin out and then everyone became concerned! I do know that the Ruddy Duck as been culled in UK!

Brilliant "Wanted" poster Deanne, a favourite bird of mine, great mimics of other birds they feed or live near.

Outstanding image Deanne, such superb detail. They sure are wonderful birds, you can never convince the uneducated though.
