the question Sitta sp.

the question Sitta sp. (Sitta sp.)

What do you think - (Western)Rock Nuthatch OR Eastern Rock Nuthatch?
Location
Bulgaria
Scientific name
Sitta sp.
Equipment used
Canon 300mm
Great shot. Difficult id - rock has a more tapered black eye stripe behind the eye. This one looks broad throughout the length - better for Eastern. Have never thought the discription of buff or not so buff belly to be that useful. Have you got a picture of the back of the head? if both eye stripes are visible from the back, it's an Eastern. Haven't a book to hand - would the distribution fit for both? I would go for eastern on this pic alone, but could well be wrong!
