The rebel (Haematopus ostralegus)

Just because you lot call me an oystercatcher, doesn't mean I have to! And anyway, there are hardly any oysters in Musselburgh.

Apparently the name is appropriate to their American cousins. The local names (Shalder in Shetland and Sea Pie in parts of the UK) seems more apt to the local ones.

Lol, I have seen them catch fish in Per. Excellent picture showing their like for various food. TFS Sandeep!

Aha! That's a word I didn't learn when I spent a week in the Shetlands - even though I went to a lecture on the Shetland language and its connections to Norse and Dutch. Sjalder pretty obviously (to me) is a Norse word. In modern Norwegian their name is tjeld (pronounced almost like shelled).
