The Skellig Islands

8 miles off the coast of County Kerry, Ireland.
Little Skellig has the second largest colony of Northern Gannets in the world. No public access.

Great Skellig (also called Skellig Michael) rises to 230 mtrs and has the remains of a 6th century monastery at 160 mtrs.
Puffins and other sea birds breed here as well. Boat trips to Great Skellig take about 45 minutes and you have two hours ashore.

I've not heard of these islands before Alex. Think they warrant an Opus article (I'll put it on my list!)

A great picture too - well done for getting it out of your archives lad.

The name certainly rings a bell. I am sure I have read about these islands somewhere. This is a beautiful view of these two rugged islands. Thanks for showing us this great view.
