Threatening Purple Finch (Haemorhous purpureus)

Here's something I have never seen these birds do before. This purple finch male was sitting here peacefully, when another male landed nearby, maybe 3 feet away. They both immediatly puffed their breasts out and stuck their beaks almost straight up in the air, and remained motionless in that position for quite a long time. Long enough for me to cross the room, and come back with my camera. They were both on the same level so they weren't looking up. This is obviously some sort of threat display. Moments after I took this, this male drove the other off.
