Tree Swallow pair (Iridoprocene bicolor)

This pair of Tree Swallows arrived at our newly mounted nest box on May 1st, and the female began carrying straw into the box the same day. This photo is from May 6th. On May 10th, Bluebirds drove the Tree Swallows out and began building a nest inside the box on top of the Tree Swallow nest. We put up a second nest box on May 19th, and it was claimed by a new pair of Tree Swallows four days later.

A lovely picture of the happy couple. I hope they're still in residence and haven't been evicted again.

Please keep us posted Adele.

Thank you, Delia. I hope so, too! We have more Tree Swallows around the neighborhood this year than ever before, but fewer Barn Swallows :(
