Trying to look bigger
I wonder if the Intermediate Egrets feel inadequate when comparing themselves with their larger cousins LOL.

They can look large when their necks are fully extended like this.

He was on the same bank as the Magpie Geese, with a partially hidden Glossy Egret, so that patch of greenery seemed to be fairly popular.

that's certainly a great place, Delia! Excellent photo of this lovely egret, nicely posing for you in a great setting, top class, many tfs!!!
 
I don't think they have an inferiority complex. If anything, they probably think Greats are overgrown ;)
