Turnstones (Arenaria interpres)

When searching for food the Turnstone will sometimes work as a small team to move or turn something that is to large or bulky. Turnstones are sociable but not necessarily friendly birds. Flocks have a strict hierarchy and the dominant birds will take the best feeding areas. The hierarchy is maintained because each bird has an individual face pattern and if a bird attempts to feed outside its allotted area it might be attacked or even killed.

Super capture Pete...And good info too. I have seen a couple of these scrapping before.

An interesting narrative, Pete, and a great group shot.

Fascinating image and narrative! So is the one in the middle telling the others off "Get back to your positions, everybody. Get out of my space!"?
