Upland Buzzard

Upland Buzzard (Buteo hemilasius)

  • BIJ
Getting ready to "bait" or jump.It is important to remember that unlike Common Buzzards these large birds are formidable raptors. The size of their feet and length of claw very much didtates what they are capable of killing.Red-tailed hawks,(in the hands of experienced falconers), which are compatible in size often kill large Brown Hares in the UK, which can weigh up to 7lbs. I have no doubt that these Upland Buzzards are killing the local hares which abound at Yeyahu NR. Look at the size of the hind claw in this photgraph.
