Ural Owl (Strix uralensis)

These giant things wax and wane in numbers each year. Some years they can be seen every 1/2 mile sitting in low branches overlooking fields, and other years (like this one) they appear to have disappeared. They are very active in the day time and around dusk (unlike what the wikipedia entry says about them being nocturnal...). Unlike other owls they are not so nervous, meaning they're good for taking photos of...
