Variegated

Variegated (Malurus lamberti)

I'll just take a leap of faith and say that this one, with the dark red lores and a non-navy-blue tail, is one of the Variegateds that were the largest of the fairywren flocks we saw there. Would have been great to see these species in breeding plumage, but I guess I was a few weeks too early. Just another reason (along with all the species I didn't see at all, and the fun I had seeing the 167 species I did see) to get back there for another trip, preferably within the next few years while I'm still in shape for long travels.
