Haha Delia, that sort of stuff usually happens to me, sorry to hear that!
I was actually lucky to have been there in September - for the whole of the summer the window had been clouded with a wash of wood ash to stop the kamikaze fledglings from trying to fly through it, so the bird would have appeared to be sitting in a thick Irish mist. My sister had just cleaned the window though... :)
