Violet Cuckoo, male

Violet Cuckoo, male (Chrysococcyx xanthorhynchus)

Finally saw the male after much pursue. He did the unimaginable of perching right in front of me so much so that I had to back off a little to get it in frame and focus. This guy is a complete different looking bird as compared to the female in terms of his brilliant purple plumage which the female seriously lacks.
Sometime, somewhere, a pair of sunbirds is going to bring up the offspring of this cuckoo.
Wondering what's mother nature's up to designing such strange arrangement when parents do not have to perform parenting duties raising their young. Interestingly someone else out there will always be there to take care of that.
Wonder if the cuckoo pay for such service in some ways which we yet to know.

Oh my!! What a wonderful colour he is - it's so easy to see now how they get that name, isn't it. A super picture you've taken of him Kampang.

Now that really is a good question - I wonder if we'll ever get to find out?
