Waiting for Spring (Chroicocephalus ridibundus)

Gulls are the only birds that seem not bothered by the freeze. The waders disappear; the waterfowl swim on the tiny non-frozen bits; and the Gulls just sit and wait!

Location
Slimbridge WWT, Glos.
Date taken
1 January 2009
Scientific name
Chroicocephalus ridibundus

Great shot Alan! Show how these birds are dealing with the extreme temps.

We are supposed to get a deep freeze with daytime temps not getting over -15C and night temps around -23 by the end of the week. Brrrrr...

A lovely panoramic shot Alan. You are right, gulls seem to cope with most things which get thrown at them. I watched a Shelduck falling over repeatedly on the ice yesterday but the gulls simply sat there.

We are all waiting for spring Alan, the sooner the better:D
Lovely shot of these wonderful birds:t:eek::)
