Wallace's Hawk Eagle Pair
Here's one of the few couple photos I took of the nesting pair last year. I think it would be interesting to know who's Mr and who's Mrs, could anyone comment on this?
Habitat
Oil palm plantation
Location
Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia
Date taken
14 Oct 2004
Scientific name
Spizeatus nanus
Equipment used
Nikon D70 w/ VR-Nikkor 80-400mm
Sorry I can't help you with the m v's f, but this is a great shot and wonderful to see such a handsome pair. thanks Joe.

Joe, good to see you back to the forum. You need an expert or someone familiar with Spizeatus eagle to tell you the answer . This is such a little known raptor and you are one of the few lucky people to have 'intimate' encounters with them.

Thanks Tun Pin. I've been "monitoring" this pair (same pair I think) for the previous 2 or 3 years when they built their nest on taller and (less observable) trees nearby. That was before I have my DSLR & tele lenses. In 2004 they nested in a very low tree and I was able to photograph them from the time after the nest was built through to near-fletching of the chick which unfortunately died. Alas, I have been waiting in vain for their return this year!

As in most Raptors females are usually larger than males. This isn't a certain feature, but if one individual is distinctly larger than the other it is likely to be the female. BTW, great photo.
