Water rail (Rallus aquaticus)

Water rail - This was being chased by a mink. Those of you who guessed Marsh Harrier (Sat) were right it was NOT the buzzard. S&S it was a female. It did escape the marauding mink.
Habitat
Widely but thinly distributed as breeding birds across the UK, but absent from upland areas. Most abundant in Eastern England and suitable habitat along the south coast.
Location
Westhay Somerset
Date taken
19.10.2015
Scientific name
Rallus aquaticus
Equipment used
Canon
Outstanding shot! Really good clarity for that high iso. Hope you got the mink too.

Lets hope it got out of the water and into the air in time; great capture and bird, Keith

Lovely shot! And good to know it escaped! I can do without mink (introduced and invasive), and the more water rails the more likely it is that one day I'll get to see one |=)|

Three nice captures Keith . I remember having a number of Mink in the wild also Coypu back in Suffolk that had escaped from fur farms.
