Wedge-tailed Eagle (imm)
Some years ago we had the thrill of seeing this bird close to. An adult flew off, but the inexperienced juvenile allowed me to approach within full-frame distance and take dozens of shots in all poses! In fact I see one of these shots is already in Opus!
Habitat
Roadside
Location
Naracoorte, South Australia
Date taken
10/12/2014
Scientific name
Aquila audax
Equipment used
Canon EOS 70D with Canon EF 300mm f2.8L IS II USM + 2.0 extender 111
That is one cracking portrait. Our Red-shoulder Hawks will let you take photos real close too. There isn't any reason for them to feel threatened I assumed.

The feather detail is superb Peter and a great capture with its head turned for us.

wow!! fabulous closeup of this beautiful youngster, Peter, awesome feather details and colours, congratulations, many tfs!!!

saw several of these eagles the first two times I was in Australia, which was before I started taking photos, the last time, with camera, I unfortunately didn't see any.

Once in a lifetime close up I would imagine Pete. A superb colourfully lit and well detailed capture, well done.
